Revolutionizing Type 1 Diabetes Care through Advanced Screening and Monitoring
Description

T1DM is associated with diminished quality of life, substantial healthcare costs, as well as increased morbidity and mortality risk. In 2020, there were an estimated 240,000 emergency department visits in the United States due to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and approximately 25% of T1DM are diagnosed while hospitalized for DKA.

With the emergence of screening techniques and therapeutics to delay the onset of T1DM, this program aims to educate clinicians on how to evaluate all aspects of screening, including when to screen, who to screen, how to screen, how to interpret screening results, and treatment and monitoring steps following screening.

This program will cover the following micro-lessons (5-7 minutes each):

  • Why, When, Who and How to Screen
  • Interpreting Screening Results
  • Clinical Treatment and Management Following Screening
  • Preventing Hospitalization for Diabetic Ketoacidosis through Monitoring with Diabetes Technology (including light intro to diabetes tech in T1D)
Target Audience
The target audience for this program includes endocrinologists, pediatricians, and primary care providers who provide care to patients with and at risk for type 1 diabetes.
Learning Objectives
1. Evaluate common clinician screening questions including when to screen, who to screen, how to screen, and how to interpret results.

2. Assess methods to prevent diabetic ketoacidosis in both at risk individuals and patients with type 1 diabetes (screening and advanced technology).
