Target Audience

This continuing medical education activity should be of substantial interest to the community of endocrinologists, internists, surgeons, basic scientists, nuclear medicine scientists, pathologists, trainees, nurses, physician assistants, other health care professionals and the general public who wish to broaden and update their knowledge on hypothyroidism.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, learners will be able to:

  • To understand what to do when a thyroid “incidentaloma” is identified on axial imaging  
  • Discuss how the ATA and TiRADS thyroid nodule evaluation criteria help to guide us in the management of thyroid nodules
  • Determine which radiologic characteristics make a thyroid cancer amenable to Active Surveillance
  • Understand novel directed therapies and there role in treating thyroid nodules
  • Explain appropriate pre-op imaging studies for patients with thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer
  • Discuss what imaging studies are most appropriate for thyroid cancer surveillance
  • Understand the role of image directed radiation therapy and chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced thyroid cancer
