We would like to invite you to participate in the review of the draft version of the 2019 Endocrine Society Measure Set for Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes at Risk for Hypoglycemia.
As background, the Endocrine Society (the Society) has made hypoglycemia a strategic priority, conducting a series of roundtables with key stakeholders from the federal government, provider community, patient advocates, quality improvement experts, manufacturers, and payers to develop a comprehensive approach to this problem. To further address this strategic priority, the Society has embarked on a multi-year quality improvement project, the Hypoglycemia Prevention Initiative (Initiative), to design and test clinical interventions in primary care settings that will aim to decrease the number of patients at high-risk of hypoglycemia and the frequency and severity of their episodes.
To compliment this effort, the Society convened a technical expert panel (TEP) in April to begin the process of identifying potential measures to address hypoglycemia, which can impact patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The TEP included endocrinologists, primary care physicians, diabetes educators, pharmacists, measurement experts, and patient advocates to ensure that the measure set included different opinions and expertise. This public comment is intended to serve as opportunity for interested stakeholders to provide feedback on this measure set.
