Better Bones: A Course on Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease
Course Description

As a supplemental course to the Endocrine Society’s Fellows Training Series (FTS), this course focuses on providing a comprehensive update on bone diseases, the basics and state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, and the newest clinical guidelines for hypo- and hyperparathyroidism presented by renowned experts in the field. It is targeted to deliver comprehensive education on practical aspects of patient care through interactive and multi-faceted learning opportunities. This course series features 6 programs that will be released on a monthly basis providing free continuing medication education credit. You can take courses individually or the entire package dependent on your learning needs.

Featuring curated presentations, case questions, and learning resources, this course extends the educational reach by creating an interactive experience online for a broader audience. Each module will include:

  • Clinical case vignettes
  • Answer comparisons
  • Additional practice resources
Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of the activities, participants should be better able to:

  • Discuss the prevalence, pathophysiology, and progression of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.
  • Recognize and evaluate individuals at risk for bone fractures using appropriate imaging and diagnostic approaches and updated guidelines.
  • Discuss methods to Incorporate treatment strategies, including nutrition and exercise intervention, to reduce bone fragility and fracture risk in individuals with metabolic bone disease.
  • Devise individualized treatment strategies to manage osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases that take into consideration predicted outcomes and limitations.
Accreditation Statement

The Endocrine Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Endocrine Society has achieved Accreditation with Commendation.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credit:

The Endocrine Society designates each enduring activity module of this series for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. While offering CME credits noted above, this program is not intended to provide extensive training or certification in the field.

Please note that while other accrediting bodies accept AMA PRA Category 1 credit, we can only award and report this credit for MDs/DOs. For those outside of this accreditation, please complete the participation evaluation and use that certificate as proof of attendance to submit to your accrediting body.

Maintenance of Certification (MOC):

Successful completion each enduring activity module of this series, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 6.00 points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
