Using both didactic and case-based approaches, this course will review how SGLT2 inhibitor medications have begun to assume a key role in protection against kidney damage and vascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes.

The intended audience for this activity includes a wide range of health care professionals; many may deem this presentation beneficial.

1. Describe the prevalence of ASCVD and CKD in patients with T2DM and the clinical workup that should be completed for ASCVD and CKD.
2. Explain proposed therapeutic mechanisms of SGLT2 inhibitors in ASCVD and CKD using clinical trial outcomes to support or dispute these hypotheses.
3. Choose characteristics of patients who would most benefit from SGLT2 inhibitors and consider clinical scenarios that may require advanced clinical judgment.
